Introduction

The objective of this trip is to climb “Cerro Eléctrico” (2257 m/a/s/l), which is a classic mountaineering ascent, challenging and demanding, but not too technical. The terrain involve steep screes, scramble, and glacier slopes between 40° to 45°.
Excellent views of Fitz Roy Range and Piedras Blancas Glacier.

Itinerary

FULL DAY (12hs)

We will depart early in the morning to Río Eléctrico (10 miles). Once there, we will start at the trail to Piedra del Fraile for the first 30 min, and then we´ll head up off the trail trough a dry canyon and steep slope , until we reach the base of the Glacier.

The terrain is steep, and usually requires the use of crampons at some point. Once at the Glacier, we will put on skis and continue the ascent with the skins up to the summit of Cerro Eléctrico ( 2257m), The views of Fitz Roy and Piedras Blancas Glacier from the shoulder and the summit are astonishing! After a lunch break and photos, we´ll descent skiing to the base of the glacier , and hiking back to Río Eléctrico and drive to El Chaltén.

The activity takes about 12 hours, with a vertical gain of 1700 meters and slopes between 30º-35º.

Note:  The Itinerary can be modified and should be considered only as a guide. External factors such us the conditions of the snow or weather conditions could change the original plan, and your Guides will have the criteria to change the program if they consider is necessary.

NOTE

Water is potable in Southern Patagonia. Please bring your own water filter or purification tablets if you don’t want to drink the water untreated.
Sleeping bags/pads are available for rent in El Chaltén. Book early for best availability
