Introduction

The scenery skiing in the Catedral and Lake District is amazing! Refugio Frey is know as one of the best mountain huts for ski touring and freeriding, with many possibilities all around!
For fans and lovers of ski adventures, Bariloche offers the possibility of great backcountry ski, near Catedral Ski Resort and Refugio Frey. Bariloche is a very nice City, in front of Nahuel Huapi lake and surrounded by mountains around 6000ft.
Refugio Frey is know as one of the best mountain huts for ski touring and freeriding, with many possibilities all around! From easy slopes to steep chutes, your guide UIAGM-IFMGA will offer you different options according to the weather-snow conditions, and your personal skills.
El Chaltén offers the possibility to climb and ski moderate mountains with incredible surrounding views of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the Southern Ice Field.
Some of the options are: Loma del Diablo, Cerro Vespignani or Crestón and Cerro Madsen. These places are very remote, and you´ll rarely find any other people around...
It´s very important to have ski touring experience, and very good fitness, because in all cases the approach to the snow is walking and carrying your own skis.
The program in Fitz Roy area, it´s designed to do 2 or 3-day trips plus one camping trip for one or two nights. This flexibility will allow you to adapt according to the weather conditions.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Reception at Bariloche Airport and transfer to your Hotel. Briefing with your guide; equipment check and details of the program. Lodging at Bariloche.    

DAY 2

Transfer to Catedral Ski Resort. Ski off-piste around Catedral mountain. Lodging at Bariloche

DAY 3

Transfer to Catedral Ski Resort. We´ll take the lifts to reach the ridge of the mountain, and start our traverse to Frey Hut. Excellent views of Nahuel Huapi Lake and the surrounding mountains! We´ll ski down the Van Titter valley, and then skin up to Refugio Frey. Lodging at Refugio Frey.

DAY 4

We have the entire day to go ski touring with a light pack, around the frozen “Laguna Toncek”, surrounded by granite towers. Slopes and chutes to choose according to snow and weather conditions. Lodging at Refugio Frey.

DAY 5

Possible ski in the morning, and back to Catedral Ski area in the afternoon. Transfer back to Bariloche. Lodging at Bariloche.

DAY 6

Ski at Cerro López, very scenic views of Nahuel Huapi Lake

DAY 7

Transfer to Airport and flight to El Calafate. Transfer to El Chaltén. Lodging at El Chaltén.

DAY 8

Transfer to Mosquito Creek; Ski Loma del Diablo (1800m). Vertical drop: 1200m. Lodging at El Chaltén.

DAY 9

Transfer to Lago del Desierto. Ski Cerro Vespignani ( 2146m). Vertical drop:1500m. Lodging at El Chaltén.

DAY 10

Approach to Fitz Roy Basecamp. Optional ski in the afternoon at Glacier de los Tres. Camp. Poincenot.

DAY 11

Ski Cerro Madsen (1806m). Vertical Gain1000m. Camp. Poincenot.

DAY 12

Back to El Chaltén. Lodging at El Chaltén

DAY 13

Transfer to El Calafate Airport. End of the services

NOTE

Water is potable in Southern Patagonia. Please bring your own water filter or purification tablets if you don’t want to drink the water untreated.
Sleeping bags/pads are available for rent in El Chaltén. Book early for best availability
