Highlights

The Catedral and Lake District offer stunning scenery for skiing, with Refugio Frey being a top spot for ski touring and freeriding. Bariloche, located by Nahuel Huapi lake and surrounded by 6000ft mountains, is ideal for backcountry skiing. El Chaltén provides opportunities to climb and ski moderate mountains like Loma del Diablo and Cerro Vespignani, with views of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. These remote areas require ski touring experience and good fitness, as approaches involve walking and carrying skis. The Fitz Roy program includes flexible 2-3 day trips and one camping trip, adaptable to weather conditions.

Itinerary

day 1
Reception & Briefing.

Reception at Bariloche Airport and transfer to your Hotel. Briefing with your guide; equipment check and details of the program. Lodging at Bariloche.

day 2
Ski off-piste around Catedral.

Transfer to Catedral Ski Resort. Ski off-piste around Catedral mountain. Lodging at Bariloche.

day 3
Traverse to Frey Hut

Transfer to Catedral Ski Resort. We’ll take the lifts to reach the ridge of the mountain, and start our traverse to Frey Hut. Excellent views of Nahuel Huapi Lake and the surrounding mountains! We’ll ski down the Van Titter valley, and then skin up to Refugio Frey. Lodging at Refugio Frey.

day 4
Ski Touring at "Laguna Trocek".

We have the entire day to go ski touring with a light pack, around the frozen “Laguna Toncek”, surrounded by granite towers. Slopes and chutes to choose according to snow and weather conditions. Lodging at Refugio Frey.

day 5
Back to Catedral.

Possible ski in the morning, and back to Catedral Ski area in the afternoon. Transfer back to Bariloche. Lodging at Bariloche.

Ski at "Cerro López".

Very scenic views of Nahuel Huapi Lake.

day 7
Travel to El Chaltén.

Transfer to Airport and flight to El Calafate. Transfer to El Chaltén. Lodging at El Chaltén.

day 8
Ski "Loma del Diablo" (1800m).

Transfer to Mosquito Creek; Ski Loma del Diablo (1800m). Vertical drop: 1200m. Lodging at El Chaltén.

day 9
Ski "Cerro Vespignani" (2146m).

Transfer to Lago del Desierto. Ski "Cerro Vespignani" (2146m). Vertical drop: 1500m. Lodging at El Chaltén.

day 10
Approach to Fitz Roy Basecamp.

Optional ski in the afternoon at Glacier de los Tres. Camp at Poincenot.

day 11
Ski "Cerro Madsen" (1806m).

Vertical Gain 1000m. Camp at Poincenot.

Back to El Chaltén.

Lodging at El Chaltén.

Transfer to El Calafate.

  • How difficult is my program?

    To help you choose and prepare for our activities, we described the Level of Difficulty that corresponds to the physical effort, and technical skills required:

    Physical Training Difficulty:
    Moderate: Main Trails along the National Park, with distances between 5 and 18 km distance, and elevation gain lower than 500m.
    Intermediate: Could involve some terrain off-trail and steep screes. Distances between 10 and 20 km, elevation gain between 500 and 1000m.
    Difficult: Semi-technical Alpine terrain, could involve steep screes, scrambling, moraines, glaciers, snow, etc. Elevation gain 1000m or more.
    Very Difficult: Technical Alpine Terrain; could involve rock climbing, Ice Climbing or Ski Touring. Elevation gain 1000-1500m or more.

    Technical Skills:
    Trekking experience required: previous backpacking 2 to 3 days.
    Winter experience required: backpacking in winter conditions 3 to 4 days.
    Glacier experience required: technical use of crampons and ice axe.
    Climbing experience required: Alpine ascents on multi-pitch routes; rock or ice climbing. (Or both).
    Ski touring experience required: Backcountry ski descents & skinning uphill.
    Use of beacon, probe & shovel.

  • What meals are included in the trips?

    Daily programs do not include packed lunch (you can request with an additional cost). All our multi-day programs (ascents, trekking, expeditions) include the Expedition meals as detailed below. (You could bring some of your personal snacks as well).

    Yes, definitely! We are specialized on Custom Trips, and we can provide also the following services: Transportation, Lodging, Expedition Meals, Porters. We also provide services for Travel Companies, Photographers and Private Groups.

  • How much in advance should I book?

    We highly recommend booking 90 days in advance, in order to find services available.

  • What happens if the weather is bad?

    Our goal is to follow plan A, but if the weather or terrain conditions do not allow it, you will be offered a plan B or C, in order to use our services as best as possible.
