Highlights

The Mount Tronador is one of the emblematic peaks of Northern Patagonia, with 3554m it is the highest in the “Nahuel Huapi National Park”. It consists of 3 summits: the International Summit, the Chilean Summit and the Argentine Peak; and it is surrounded by a total of 7 glaciers.
The “Pico Argentino” (3310m) is a classic ascent of Northern Patagonia, since its difficulty is intermediate and allows the ascent for those who are new to classic mountaineering or glacier travel. It is also a good challenge to do the ascent with skis in spring!

Itinerary

Day 1
Depart from Bariloche to "Pampa Linda" (2.5hs drive).

From there, we will follow the trail that takes us to the “Meiling Hut”, located at 1900m, (13km distance and a 3000 ft elevation gain; about 5 hours approx.). If there is time and energy, in the afternoon we will do a short trek on the glacier to test the gear.

Day 2
Leave at dawn towards the summit.

We will leave at dawn towards the summit. In the “Castaño Overa” glacier we will rope up and use the crampons. We will pass the "Filo de la Vieja" to later reach the “Depression”, where there are large crevasses to be overcome. From there, we will go to the col between the International Summit and the “Pico Argentino”. From the col to the summit is the most technical section, an icy and sometimes mixed snow ramp up to a 50° slope. After enjoying the summit and taking photos, we will return back to the refuge.

Day 3
Descent & return to Bariloche.

Descent along the trail to Pampa Linda and return to Bariloche.

Note: The itinerary can be modified and should be considered only as a guide. External factors such as the conditions of the snow or weather conditions could change the original plan, and your Guide will have the criteria to change the program if he considers it necessary. This will not entitle passengers to claim any compensation.
